Kraft - Women

“Like photography (though with far greater effort), casting destabilizes the relationship between the artist’s touch and the work. For this reason, foundry casting, with its delegation of labour, fits awkwardly into the narratives of craft that are strongly associated with uniqueness.” (Glenn Adamson, “Power to the Second Craft”. in Metalsmith. Vol 38, No. 3. July 26, 2018. ).

Getragen/ Worn or Carried

“There is an intense repetitive quality to embroidery - different from metal work or crocheting. I am mimicking the act of writing through sewing - the text does not become more legible in this medium - in fact, it becomes more abstract.” (Making & Mending, pg. 47)

Fragile Tools

By using open-source software and 3D printing methods, I am able to create a personal supply chain of tools. These tools are far more fragile and less refined than the mass produced tools I use daily for crocheting and mending. Making a mould of my most-used tools enabled me to cast them in more fragile mediums, such as plaster.
